what we offer

Fit2Swim is an exciting, new swimming and wellness centre recently opened in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.

Our custom-built facility includes a 20m heated pool, showers, change facilities and separate viewing area. As a family-owned and operated business, we ensure small class sizes and personal attention, while our online customer portal makes booking classes and monitoring student progress simple and convenient. Our pool also has the healthiest water possible and a wonderfully odour free environment due to our state-of-the-art water purification system.

Our swim school caters for all ages from parents and bubs to squad-level swimmers and adults, with clear and achievable pathways to improvement and development. As an added benefit, swimmers learn critical water safety skills throughout the programs. All our instructors are highly qualified and passionate about teaching.

The low-impact exercise benefits of water are well known. In addition to swimming, Fit2Swim offers aqua aerobics sessions in small, focused groups.

Who we are

Fit2Swim is owned and operated by Jo and Dan Glass, long-term Coogee residents and active members in the local community. Jo is a volunteer lifesaver for Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club and Dan is a volunteer coach of youth sports teams.

Swimming has always been Jo’s passion and she has taken an active role in swimming competitions, fitness and teaching. Jo is a qualified AustSwim Teacher and holds a CPR and Bronze Medallion.

The entire pool is 1.2m deep. There is no deep end. We have designed the pool in this way for optimal teaching purposes and for aqua aerobics.

Aqua aerobics

How many participants are there in a session?

To keep the aqua aerobics sessions more personal we limit them to just 12 participants.

How long is a session?

Each aqua aerobics session runs for 45 minutes.

How much does a session cost?

Our aqua aerobics sessions are run in small, focussed groups in a private setting. The cost is $19.80 per session and are paid for in 10 session blocks.

How do I pay for sessions?

The simplest way to make a payment is via our secure online customer portal. We accept Visa/Mastercard or bank transfer via the customer portal. We do not charge any credit card fees. You can also make a payment by calling us on 0466 790 798 or at the Fit2Swim service desk. Note we do not take cash payments.

When do you run sessions?

Our Aqua program is currently not running but we expect to have it back again soon.

Swimming classes

Do you run holiday intensive classes?

Yes, we run intensive swimming programs at various levels of ability during the NSW school holiday breaks. These programs give children the opportunity to swim every day for a week. Children generally make huge improvements over the week.

When do you run classes?

Our centre is open 7 days a week. Our operating hours are:

  • Weekdays 7.30am to 8.00pm
  • Saturdays 8.00am to 6.30pm
  • Sundays 9.30am to 4.00pm
Once you register your details you will be able to see the class timetable and available spots. During the NSW school terms, our class times are scheduled to minimise the impact to the neighbouring Maroubra Junction Public School during drop-off and pick-up periods.

What age groups are the lessons designed for?

We cater for all ages from babies through to adults. 0-3 years olds: at the baby and toddler stage, we introduce your child to the joy of swimming. Through our fun, friendly and social program, your child progresses from being comfortable in water to travelling independently across and under the water. 3-12 year olds: complete beginners learn to move independently in the water. We then work on streamlining their movement in the water in preparation for stroke development. Stroke fundamentals start with freestyle and gradually introduce backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Once your child is a competent swimmmer they will be able to join our squad sessions - a fun, social way to improve their swimming skills and fitness. 12+ year olds: whether they are learning to swim for the first time, looking for stroke correction or simply increasing their fitness, it's never too late for teenagers and adults to experience the joy of swimming!

At what age can my child start learning to swim?

Babies love water so we encourage parents to introduce them to swimming classes from 3 months old. But it is never too late to start learning. All children under 3 years old take part in classes accompanied by a parent. There are two levels; based on age, not ability. Children 3-18 months old join our FIT 2 BUBBLE class where we gently introduce your child to the joys of swimming in a safe and nurturing environment. Children 1.5 - 3 years old join our FIT 2 SPLASH class where they learn to move through water independently.

How many students are there per class?

We have small class sizes to make lessons more personal and maximise the benefit to our students:

  • Private lessons are one student or two siblings of similar ability
  • Learn-to-swim classes are up to three students
  • Pre-squad (i.e. breastroke and butterfly) classes are up to six students
  • Adult lessons are up to six students
  • Parent-and-child classes are up to eight children
  • Squads are up to eight students

How long are classes?

Parent-and-child classes, learn-to-swim and private classes are 30 minutes long. Squad sessions run for 45 minutes.

I want to take part in a parent-and-child class. Does it matter if I can't swim?

The entire pool is 1.2m deep. There is no deep end. An adult can safely stand anywhere in the pool. If you aren’t comfortable for any reason, please speak to one our staff.

Do you provide make-up lessons if we can't attend a class?

We provide a maximum of two make-up lessons per term. Please choose your make-up time carefully. If you miss your make-up lesson, it cannot be rebooked and the lesson will be missed.

If your child is going to miss a substantial number of classes either for illness, injury or other reason, please contact our office to discuss your options.

We do not provide any refunds.

Please take a moment to read the Absences and Make-Up Lessons section on page 2 of our Terms of Service for a detailed explanation of our make-up policy.

How do I book a make-up lesson?

All absences and make-ups need to be booked via the Customer Portal, which can be accessed directly at https://fit2swim.accounts.ud.io/. We have set up the system this way for your convenience. Simply go the Bookings tab, click on 'View and Manage' for the relevant session and click on 'Unable to Attend'. You will automatically be allocated a make-up session. You can then click on 'Make a Booking' and apply the make-up. Due to the large number of students at our centre, it is not possible to notify us of absences and/or book make-up lessons via phone, text, email or verbally to pool staff. However, feel free to speak to us if you need help using the Customer Portal.
Please take a moment to read the Absences and Make-Up Lessons section on page 2 of our Terms of Service for a detailed explanation of our make-up policy.

Enrolment

When should I enrol in a class?

Enrolments start 5 weeks before the beginning of a new term or 3 weeks before a holiday break. Places fill up quickly, especially for the popular timeslots, so it is best to enrol as soon as bookings open. You are still able to enrol during the term. You will only be charged for the remaining sessions.

How do I enrol in a class?

For your convenience, our system allows you to book in yourself online. Classes are listed in order of increasing ability. Please read the class descriptions and prerequisites carefully. They will help you choose the correct level. Please call us on 0466 790 798 if you need assistance selecting the right level. Let us know if you don't find a suitable time or need a private lesson. If it is early in the term, we have some flexibility in moving classes. Please note: payment is required at the time of booking to secure your place. If you book in after the start of term you will only be charged pro-rata fo the number of weeks remaining. We accept Visa or Mastercard (not AMEX) or direct debit from your bank account. We don't charge any credit card transactions fees..

How do you assess the appropriate class level for my child (0-3 years old)?

All children under 3 years old take part in parent-and-child classes. There are two levels; based on age not ability. Children 3-18 months old join our FIT 2 BUBBLE class where we gently introduce your child to the joys of swimming in a safe and nurturing environment. Children 1.5 - 3 years old join our FIT 2 SPLASH class where they learn to move through water independently. We recognise that some children progress faster than others and are happy to discuss moving your child to a higher level if they are ready to advance.

How do you assess the appropriate class level for my child (3+ years old)?

For your convenience, our system allows you to book in yourself online. Each of our classes has specific swimming competencies that determine your child's progress in our swimming program. Classes are listed in order of increasing ability. Please read the class descriptions and prerequisites carefully. They will help you choose the correct level. Please call us on 0466 790 798 if you need assistance selecting the right level.

Can I have a trial swimming lesson or squad session?

We don’t offer trials unfortunately as it can disrupt our usual classes.

How many sessions do I get when I enrol in a class?

Programs are run either weekly over a term or as a holiday intensive. Terms last 10-11 weeks, i.e. 10-11 sessions, inline with NSW Public School terms. We may also run a six-week Summer Term over the summer school holidays, i.e. six weekly sessions.
Holiday intensives include five sessions run over five consecutive days. If a session falls on a public holiday there will be no lesson and you will not be charged for that session.

Swimming attire

What type of swimsuit is best?

We recommend one piece costumes for girls and swim briefs for boys. Rinse all swimwear in tap water after your lessons to increase their lifespan. Wetsuits or rashies are not recommended as they hinder learning how to swim.

For ease and speed of commencing lessons, we suggest students come to the centre wearing their swimming costume under clothes or a dressing grown. While there are change rooms, our experience shows it is more efficient to arrive at the centre ready to swim!

Are swimming goggles required?

Goggles are not required for our under 3 year old classes (i.e. FIT 2 BUBBLE, FIT 2 PADDLE and FIT 2 GLIDE) as children need to learn to be comfortable with water. However, goggles are recommended for subsequent levels as children place their face under water for longer periods of time.

You can buy a pair of goggles from the Fit2Swim service desk if you don’t already have one.

Do students need to wear a swimming cap?

It is not mandatory to wear a swimming cap but we would appreciate if you do so. This helps keep the pool water clean but also keeps your child warmer and prevents their hair getting in their face during lessons. You can buy a cap from the Fit2Swim service desk if you don’t already have one.

What is Fit2Swim's policy on nappies for babies or toddlers?

Strict rules apply to babies or toddlers wearing a nappy whether toilet trained or not. All children under the age of 3 must wear a disposable swimming nappy covered by a snuggly-fitting SplashAbout Happy Nappy. This also applies to any children over the age of 3 who are not completely toilet trained.

Unfortunately, if your child is not properly attired you cannot join the class. This policy is in place to ensure the highest possible water quality for our patrons. You can buy both types of nappies from the Fit2Swim service desk. Our staff will help ensure the correct size for your child.

Please don't try to use a normal nappy under a Happy Nappy. It will absorb so much water that it will become nearly four times the size and your child will be very uncomfortable.

Should my baby or toddler wear a wetsuit?

Generally, no. The water temperature is around 30 degrees and comfortable when wearing a swimming costume only. However, if your baby tends to get cold in water, feel free to bring a wetsuit. We suggest a Splashabout wetsuit. They are made of the same material as Happy Nappys and cover more body area. They can be purchased from most swimming and sports retailers.

COVID-19

Can I use the change cubicles and showers?

Yes. Our change cubicles and showers are open again.

However, as part of the Fit2Swim COVID-19 Safety Plan, we ask all swimmers to abide by our “Get in, swim, learn, enjoy, get out” policy. Please arrive just before the start of your lesson wearing your swimmers and ready to swim. Please have your towel and clothes ready to put on and leave the building promptly after your lesson.

Can I use the toilets?

Yes. The two toilets are open with regular cleaning and disinfection.

What are you doing about social distancing?

We have implemented the following measures in our Fit2Swim COVID-19 Safety Plan:

  • “Get in, swim, learn enjoy, get out” policy.
  • Spreading of seats to 1.5m distance between parents/carers waiting inside the building.
  • Please have only one parent/carer per swimmer in the building. Wait outside if possible.
  • Parents/carers of older swimmers: please drop-off and collect your children. Please wait outside or in your car during lessons.
These simple temporary measures will help keep everyone safe while in our building.

What are you doing to clean and disinfect?

Fit2Swim staff clean and disinfect all surfaces regularly throughout the day, including pool walls, entry ladders, the bench and the toilets and the waiting room.

Equipment will be limited to one item per swimmer for their lessons and will be disinfected between every lesson.

Will my swimming lessons be affected by the safety measures?

No. We will continue to provide excellence in swimming and water safety education for your family. We are passionate about swimming and sharing our love for water with our community.

What happens to my enrolment if there is another lockdown in NSW?

If there is another lockdown and our swim centre is forced to close, we will place your enrolment on hold and resume where we left off when we are able to open again.

What should I do if I feel unwell?

Even if you feel a little unwell, please do not attend your swimming lesson.

It is important, especially during this COVID-19 period, that you stay at home and attend to your health needs. To ensure sick swimmers do not come to lessons at Fit2Swim we continue our generous make-up policy.

We will request any swimmer entering the building, showing signs of sickness to leave immediately. This is for the sake of everyone’s health and safety. Thanks for your understanding.

When will things return to normal?

We have regular contact with Swimming Australia’s CEO and the NSW Health Department. We will pass on information relevant to you and your family.

The measures in the Fit2Swim COVID-19 Safety Plan are temporary but very important.

Luckily, the health and safety measures we have implemented are easy to maintain with minimal disruption to swimming lessons. We remain passionate about providing swimming and water safety education for your family and can continue to do this with everyone respecting the safety measures.
